Avistar HD VC from a webcam

Avistar Communications Corporation (www.avistar.com) has announced the Avistar C3 Integrator  – a solution that is said to deliver high-definition videoconferencing on low cost thin terminals within VDI environments. Designed to deliver a business-class and standards-based desktop videoconferencing experience, the Avistar C3 Integrator is now enabled to support the Logitech HD Webcam B990. This allows for H.264 encoding on board the webcam itself, while decoding and additional media processing takes places within the Avistar C3 Integrator, supporting thin terminals, such as the HP t5740 Thin Client and VDI solutions such as Citrix XenDesktop and Citrix XenApp.

“Avistar has emerged as the leader in delivering desktop videoconferencing solutions to the virtual desktop infrastructure. Our Avistar C3 Integrator™ solution currently supports a variety of VDI solutions, webcams and thin terminals. As thin terminals continue to shrink in size and capacity, we need to support these changes. Our partnership with Logitech has enabled us to support the Logitech HD Webcam B990 which provides onboard H.264 encoding. By coupling this with the Avistar C3 Integrator™ solution, our clients now have additional flexibility in the VDI solutions they select while experiencing an industry-leading desktop videoconferencing experience,” said Bryan Kennedy, vice president of business development, Avistar.

“We’re committed to bringing HD video communications to anyone, on any screen, and our work with Avistar is taking the burden off of thin clients so enterprises can offer the highest-quality HD video conferencing experience in a virtual desktop environment,” said Eric Kintz, vice president and general manager of Logitech’s video business.

“By packaging HP’s affordable thin clients with the Logitech HD Webcam B990 and the Avistar C3 Integrator™ solution, our business clients can now experience an engaging videoconferencing solution, that is economical, designed to run within the VDI environment and is fully interoperable with other videoconferencing and communications assets,” said Allen Tiffany, Worldwide Thin Client Product Manager, HP.

“The Logitech HD Webcam B990 enables HD video conferencing on a wider range of devices by offloading video encoding from the CPU to the camera’s built-in H.264 video encoder. This new webcam is ideal for desktop virtualization since it works well with thin clients and repurposed PCs. Paired with the Avistar C3 Integrator™ – Citrix Edition, this solution makes it very practical to deliver HD desktop video conferencing at scale from a desktop virtualization infrastructure,” said Derek Thorslund, Citrix Product Strategist, HDX XenDesktop Product Group, Citrix Systems, Inc.
