The Ricoh Unified Communication System P3000.

Ricoh and Vidyo have announced  the  Ricoh Unified Communication System P3000, the first Ricoh product resulting from a partnership with Vidyo as part of Ricoh’s launch into the unified communications market earlier this year. The P3000 delivers HD multipoint video conferencing, and enables users to share documents, photos and videos using a 3.5 lb portable room system that is built around Vidyo technology.

The Vidyo communication and collaboration platform is software-based, and so can be customised for individual enterprise and can leverage the latest hardware innovations, making it attractive to partners. The VidyoRouter uses the company’s patented Adaptive Video Layering architecture and H.264 Scalable Video Coding (SVC), eliminates the MCU.

“Our partnership with Vidyo has allowed us to quickly bring to market an entirely innovative, advanced approach to video conferencing and collaboration,” said Hidefumi Nakamura, General Manager, UCS Business Department, Ricoh Company, Ltd.   “With Vidyo’s platform, based on their patented  H.264 scalable video coding architecture, we were able to use Vidyo’s APIs and dramatically decrease the time to market for this compelling new product.  In the end, it is our corporate and enterprise customers who benefit from the speed and ease with which we were able to unveil this extremely high-quality and stress-free unified communications product.”

“Ricoh’s new product and service  is a market changing product” said Ofer Shapiro, CEO and co-founder of Vidyo.  “This is a great example of Ricoh’s ingenuity as well as the power of Vidyo’s platform. Our technology enabled this innovative new form factor from Ricoh as well as a cost effective, over the Internet, service offering.”

The P3000 is the first step for Ricoh into the unified communication market of products and services, scheduled for release in August 2011 in Japan. The new product and service is designed to enable users to optimise their time and space efficiently and benefit from the ability to communicate with anyone, any time, anywhere via a standard Internet connection.

The product is compact, slim, weighs only 1.6 kg (3.5 lbs), is extremely portable and can be easily stored in a small space. With a built-in camera, microphone, speaker and wired/wireless LAN port, users can begin communicating in 30 seconds by connecting the device to any video-output equipment, similar to a projector or other A/V equipment. The system is designed with a folding camera ‘arm’ that is quickly set up and easily adjusted and offers a user-friendly interface and control panel for simple operation. Users can access other users easily from a personalized contact list.
