Vidyo has announced availability of VidyoMobile on Android Market. The VidyoMobile app now allows Vidyo’s enterprise customers to offer mobile workers the ability to participate in company video conferences from select  Android mobile devices, expanding access to conferences that already connect iOS devices including iPads, iPhones, laptops, desktops, telepresence and HD room systems (including interoperability with Polycom, Cisco/Tandberg and other H.323 and SIP endpoints).

VidyoMobile for Android is currently used around the world including in the US, Europe, Asia, South America, Australia and Canada, and can be downloaded today from Android Market.  VidyoMobile runs on most ARMv7-based Android devices running v2.2 through v3.1 with support for v4.0 coming soon. VidyoMobile requires a user account on either an enterprise VidyoConferencing system or with a Vidyo service provider. Service packages and pricing vary by provider and region.

“With VidyoMobile now available on both Android and iOS devices, employees are able to join video conferences with other mobile endpoints, desktops, room systems or laptops from anywhere, at any time and from the tablets and smart phones they already love and own. Delivering up to 720p HD resolution with shared content viewing capability, VidyoMobile proves that you don’t have to restrict yourself to audio-only calls when you’re on the go anymore,” said Ofer Shapiro, CEO and co-founder of Vidyo. “Enabling businesses to be competitive in a world that is going more mobile every day is key in the video collaboration industry and Vidyo is proud to lead the enterprise mobile video conferencing space.”

A Gartner study released this month found that sales of mobile devices grew 5.6% in the third quarter of 2011. It also found that smartphone sales increased by 42% and that Android OS doubled its market share in the past year, running 52% of the world’s smartphones, as Apple’s iOS takes up 15% of the market. According to research firm Strategy Analytics, Android-powered tablets accounted for 27% of global sales last quarter. The iPad’s share is now  67%, making VidyoMobile available to over 67% of all smartphones and to 94% of all tablets.

Like all Vidyo endpoints, VidyoMobile-enabled devices can participate in conferences with more than 100 participants – displaying up to 4 participants at a time on tablets – and provide the user the ability to customize the view and select shared presentation materials.  Additionally, participants are displayed using the active speaker feature, which automatically displays the current and last few speakers.
