New collaborative meeting room solution from Barco

Posted on

In the past, a typical AV-based meeting would feature one person presenting content to present or discuss – either on paper or as a PowerPoint presentation – and the others would listen. The introduction of mobile devices (including laptops, smartphones and tablets) has added multiple sources of content to the table. Barco argues that meeting room technology needs to be “upgraded to the BYOD era”.

Barco’s new solution allows users to enrich the meeting with content from any digital device – not only laptops, smartphones and tablets, but also document cameras, networked sources, IP cameras, and more. Meeting participants are free to decide what and how to share, making meetings ever more collaborative and engaging.

Through a touchscreen interface, a moderator selects which content is shown on the large screen and also chooses the layout of one or two central screen(s). The moderator can highlight certain content windows by making them larger than the others. The system’s intelligence proposes layouts to make sure the screen’s pixel estate is used optimally.

The solution is modular and additional equipment and technology can be added at any time. At the heart of the system is Barco’s new NRC-200 networked room compositor. This device receives all input sources (up to 8), does the necessary processing, and can drive two screens of up to UHD (4k) resolution. Both screens are controlled by a user interface on a commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) touch-enabled PC and can show completely independent content. In addition to the NRC-200, users can use the ClickShare CSC system to connect laptops, tablets and smartphones. Optionally, AV-to-IP encoders can be added to connect non-networked sources.

“This solution, featuring the new NRC-200, is a great addition to our meeting room collaboration offering,” says Romeo Baertsoen, VP Strategic Marketing Corporate AV at Barco. “It really focuses on the particular needs of large meeting rooms, training rooms and conference theatres, preparing them for the BYOD era.”

* Barco reports that its ClickShare collaboration solution has achieved three years of continuous growth. The ClickShare sales network now extends to a network of over 1,000 resellers and is said to be continually expanding: “Sales keep on growing, doubling revenue every year,” says Jan Willem Brands, Barco’s VP Collaboration.

“Customers include numerous leading organisations in the oil and gas, professional services, financial, consumer goods, public services and hospitality markets. At the moment, there are about 200,000 ClickShare Buttons in the field; and the ClickShare apps for smartphones and tablets have been downloaded over 80,000 times.”

In the coming months, new products will be launched to serve all segments of the Corporate AV market. “Collaboration is becoming very important in knowledge working environments,” Jan Willem Brands explains. “Users demand flexible, easy-to-use technology that simply facilitates getting their message across. ClickShare provides an excellent answer to these needs.”
